Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity….I had such high hopes. I love scary movies and I really love ones about Demon because I totally believe in that stuff. I really thought this one was going to scare the crap out of me but it didn’t. I just kept waiting for stuff to happen. I was thinking this was going to be like Amityville Horror or something but it is not even in the same ball park. Yes, there are slamming doors and a couple of other things that come out of nowhere so you will jump but don’t expect to be looking over your shoulder while you are walking down the dark hall in your house to go to bed tonight.

That frighted feeling did not stay with me that long. I think the best part about scary movies is when you get ready for bed and you start thinking about the movie and you scare the crap out of yourself….I did not get that with this movie. The actors where good and convincing. If you are going to see it I suggest seeing it in the theater because I do not think this will translate well to your tv unless of course you have theater surround sound and you make it really dark, then it might.

Law Abiding Citizen with Gerard Butler, should I go see it?

The simple and quick answer to that is YES!!!! I just got home from the theater and I loved it. I like Gerard Butler from Sparta but I was a little worried if I would like his films after seeing Gamer. Don’t get me wrong he was good in Gamer but I was not to excited about the story line so I was questioning his ability to pick a good movie. All of that changed tonight. He has totally redeemed himself with me. I am sure he really does not care and to be honest I still would have given another movie of his a try if this one was not what I expected.

This one is great from beginning to end. Action around every corner and when you think it is going to slow down you are wrong. Seriously, at one point I was so shocked by what happened my HEART was really hurting. Really, I jumped so hard that my chest starting hurting, it was crazy.

Now, I can not tell you a whole lot about the movie without getting carried away and possibly giving away some parts of it. It all centers around a man who had a very bad thing happen to him and left it up to the justice system to do the right thing but when it doesn’t he takes care of it himself.  I will tell you it definitely earns its R rating because there is a lot of blood and guts and you do see Gerard Butler’s bare butt in one scene but it does have relevance to what is happening.

My final word is: Go see this movie in the theater and then buy it on DVD when it comes out…..I know I will. A very good movie to say the least.

Jackopierce Promise of Summer

I know I am behind the times on this one but I just bought the Promise of Summer album by Jack O Pierce. I really like these guys. My husband introduced me to their music years and years ago. In fact that is where I got my nickname, Advent, from one of their songs. My husband started calling me that when we were just friends and look what that lead too. My favorite track on this CD is Texas. It just makes you feel so good. I am originally from Louisiana which most of you know and I am always thinking about “home”. This song just makes me miss it even more. It is classic Jack O Pierce. They also put March on it as well. Again one of my favorite songs by them. I also like Late Shift….who am I kidding I do not think there is one song of theirs I do not like.

Woman as Salvation, Anderson’s Luck, Vineyard, Please Come to Boston, and let’s not forget Advent. I could go on forever it seems. Just give this one a listen and I am sure you will like it. They are coming to LA next month and I am going to try so hard to see them. I have always wanted to see them but I have never had the opportunity but now that I am in LA I was very surprised to see they were coming. I have got to find a way to go or I will regret it.

Louisiana has gone wireless

After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, New York
Scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came
to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network
more than 100 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers in the weeks that followed,
a California archaeologist dug to a depth of 20 feet and shortly
after, a story in the LA Times read: ‘California archaeologists, finding
traces of 200 year old copper wire, have concluded that their ancestors
already had an advanced high-tech communications network
a hundred years earlier than the New Yorkers.’

One week later, a local newspaper in Louisiana reported the following:
After digging as deep as 30 feet in his pasture near St.Martinville, Bubba
Boudreaux, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely
nothing. Bubba has therefore concluded that 300 years ago,
Louisiana had already gone wireless.

Just makes you proud to live in Louisiana !

Furikake Chicken Drumettes

I made the most amazing chicken tonight.  My mother and father-in-law bought me Hawaii’s Bento Box Cookbook: Fun Lunches for Kids by Susan Yuen for my birthday and there are several recipes in the back of the book for you to make.  This one is called Furikake Chicken Drumettes and it was great.  Lani loved it so much.  I am definitely going to make this one again.  When Dad comes I will make it for him.  The only thing I would recommend changing is using chicken strips instead of drumettes.  Here is the recipe:

6 tablespoons shoyu

2 eggs

1 clove garlic, minced

4 tablespoons flour

6 tablespoons cornstarch

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons furikake

2 pounds chicken drumettes

1 cup flour

1 cup cornstarch

2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons furikake

oil for deep frying

Combine shoyu, eggs, garlic, 4 tablespoons flour, 6 tablespoons cornstarch, sugar, and 2 tablespoons furikake in a large bowl and mix well.  Add chicken, toss well, and marinate overnight.  When ready to cook, combine flour, cornstarch, and furikake in a large bowl and mix well.  Drain marinade from the chicken, and dredge chicken in flour mixture.  Fry in hot oil until golden and cooked through.

I do not have a family big enough to cook 2 pounds of chicken so I did cut down the recipe.  I did not cut down the marinade but when it came time to dredge the chicken I did only use 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cornstarch.  I also put it in a ziplock bag to cut down on the mess and clean up.  When I was finished I just threw the ziplock bags away.

I really suggest you try this recipe.  Do not let the amount of ingrediants scare you.  I bet you have all of this stuff in your cabinet anyway.  If you do try it let me know what you think.

Rio de Janeiro got the 2016 Olympics

The news was just announced.  Rio De Janeiro will host the 2016 Olympics.  Too bad for Chicago.  This will be the first time the Olympics will be held in South Africa.  Rio’s theme for the Olympics is “Live Your Passion”.
