Advents Corner

The next time you see one of our service men or women please take a moment to say thank you.  They sacrifice so much to give us the everyday freedoms that we sometimes take for granted all at the same time giving up so much of them.  This great country was built on the backs of these selfless individuals.  Teach your children that they are our true heroes not football players and movie stars.  Please watch the attached video and the next time you see service personnel and you are too embarrassed to say something or you just do not know what to say just give them this sign and that will convey more emotion than any amount of words every could.  Thank you to our heroes in uniform.

One of my favorite Johnny Depp movie moments is in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when they walk into the room with all of the squirrels shelling the nuts.  Then he tells the little girl not to touch that squirrels nuts just made me crack up so much and then to find out she was a bad nut was just too much.  Willy Wonka and Chocolate Factory is one of my all time favorite movies so to see Johnny Depp put his dark twist on it was just amazing.  Of course because I am old school I have to say that Platoon is a great movie but when they go through the village it was heartbreaking to know that they had to be faced with such trauma.  To see him as a translator in the middle of that chaos, showing the true mental anguish our soldiers when through was just heart breaking.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a funny take one an old classic but Platoon was a hard look at one of the darkest times in our history.  Now he lends his talent to another film with dark undertones as well.  I am very excited about this movie because not only does it have Johnny Depp in it but it is also a musical and it gives me and my oldest daughter a chance to get out and do something together.  Mark your calendars and visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site for trailers to the movie and vist Sweeney Todd on MySpace.

I forgot to tell you guys that Matt and I went to see Beowolf 3-D on Saturday perhaps I forgot to tell you because the movie was SO BAD.  The only positive thing that came out of the trip was we got really cool 3-D glasses and let’s not forget the fact that Matt and I got some alone time.  I had been a while and believe me we enjoy every minute of it.  It is nice to get away and just sit with each other sometimes.  He is my heart and soul and I love him so much.  Just don’t waste the time going to see Beowolf.  While we were there we saw 3 sets of people walk out of the theater.  I wanted to so bad but I am one of those people and sit there thinking it has to get better then I will miss something.  I did not get better and I did not miss anything.   I did get to share popcorn and snowcaps with my man though, so it was a perfect night.

With the new Johnny Depp movie coming out in December I am sure Michaela and I will be going to see it.  She loves musicals and Matt does not so I always take her.  Remember confessing is good for the soul so look deep within and confess to that terrible act of revenge.  So with that in mind you can call, write or create a video and make your own Dashboard Confessional for all to see.  When I was in 9^th grade me and my friend liked the same boy in school.  I was “dating” him then he broke up with me to go out with my friend.  She told me they were going to the movies that night so I went to the movies with other friends and when the lights went out in the theater we sat there and threw popcorn at them all through the movie.  It was dark so she never saw it was me.  They broke up a couple of days later, he was such a player.  Now with that being said visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site and check out the trailer.  It is directed by Tim Burton so you know it is going to be dark.  Also, check visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace.

The Golden Compass is a new movie set to come out December 7th with big name stars like Nicole Kidman and Sam Elliot. The reason I am telling you about this movie is because it is the first book in a trilogy and there are already plans in the works to produce the second and third book. If your children are like mine they are going to want to read the book and the other two in the series. This is where my warning comes in….the third book ends with the children killing God. Yes, you read that correctly, they kill God. Now we all have the right to see and read whatever we want but we must educate ourselves on the things that our children are watching and reading just like everything else. When it comes to this movie and the books please be familar your with them before just handing them over to your child. I not will presume to tell you that you should or should not let your child see the movie because that is your decision I just want to make sure you have the facts in order to make a wise decision. Just in case you are not convinced this is true look at the Snopes article on it. And so you are what movie I am talking about I have included the trailer for the film.

Now everyone knows I love Stephen King. I can remember reading Thinner when I did Plasma Apheresis, that was defintly an experience. He is just an awesome writer. I wonder if he has nightmares? The Mist by Stephen King is due to be released November 21^st. I am really excited about this one. Once again it is a situation where man must come together to survive but as always they can not get along even if it is to save their own lives.

This one is sure to give you sweaty palms and make you jump a few times. Can you guess who is behind this mist that has covered the town? Is it man made? Is it aliens? From the clips you do see a man in a military uniform but did they create it or simply let it in? Andre Braugher is in this one. I think he is a wonderful and intense actor so look for a lot of conflict and drama with this guy in a lead role.

Check out the trailer on this one. Make sure you dim the lights and turn up the speakers. There are two trailer so you should catch both of them and watch out for the bugs.

We watched a couple of movies over the weekend and one of them was 1408with John Cusack.  We really like him and the  movies that he makes but this one was a little disappointing.  I had read the book and I know, I know, the book is always better.  But truly in this case it was.  There were some tense moments in the movie that got me hands sweating and my heart racing but they were few and far between.  I liked the book much better and the book even ended better, unlike the movie.  Why do they change things like that?  I just don’t get it. 

Anyway, watch it if you want but if there is something else you have been wanting to see you may be better off watching the other movie.  I little disappointing for a John Cusack movie but it passed the time.

Even though I thought that this was one of the best movies out in a very long time I also believe in the old saying, “imitation is the highest form of flattery” Now that being said I am sad to say that a spoof of 300 is going to hit the big screen next year. It is brought to us by the same ones that brought us Epic Movie and Date Movie. It is called Meet the Spartans and here is the only trailer that I have found for it. If anyone else knows of another one please let me know so we can share it with everyone. Enjoy or not, whatever.

I went to see Halloween on Friday. It is pretty good. It gives a lot of background as to why Michael became the killer we all know. You kind of start to feel bad for Michael but that is one messed up kid. There is a lot of boobs and blood. At one point I felt like I was watching another teen movie because they showed alot with the sister and her friends just talking about nothing. Just hold steady and it will pick up.

Spoiler alert: My favorite part was when he snatched the Dad it just happens out of nowhere, you totally do not expect it.
